The M88 is compact and built tough to withstand hazardous and inhospitable environments at sea and on land. The JIS7 waterproof rating protects the radio, even if dropped in the water. Yacht customers prefer the M88 because of the 22 programmable land mobile channels, the optional swivel belt clip and the headset options. A push of a button changes the operating band between marine and land mobile channels.

Land mobile frequencies
The M88 includes 22 programmable channels reserved for Land use (146–174MHz). CTCSS and DTCS signaling are built-in.

Nonincendive classification
Nonincendive radios are incapable of generating thermal or electrical energy sufficient to ignite a volatile atmosphere under normal operating conditions-although sufficient energy for ignition could be generated under fault conditions. The M88 NI version can be used in hazardous locations stipulated under Class 1, Division 2 conditions of use approved by UL.

Simple operation
All controls are large and easy to use, and have been carefully designed and positioned to provide the simplest of user interfaces at all times on land or sea. Even when wearing gloves, the large buttons are easy to operate. In addition a large, clear backlit LCD and backlit buttons provide instant recognition of data and ensure reliable communication in any lighting conditions.
