CDPD is used to transmit data between wireless users and host networks over the CDPD coverage area. Currently available throughout 90% of cellular service coverage, CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) is a wireless wide-area network which utilizes cellular channels to transmit data between wireless users and host networks (see coverage).

Connect a PCMCIA format PC card to your compatible computer and send or receive data and faxes while on the go. You can also access online services such as email or the Internet.

CDPD provides a number of inherent advantages over older wireless data technologies:
  • Use of the widely popular internet protocol, which provides easy integration of existing landline-based applications.
  • An airlink speed of 19.2 kb ps for high data throughput.
  • Use of sophisticated encryption techniques for secure data transfer.
  • An open technology standard which fosters development of products from multiple vendors.
